No Angel by Theresa Sneed Book Review

No Angel by Theresa Sneed is a vivid story with a large dose of Lehi’s Dream and a bit of Dante’s Inferno thrown into the mix.  This novel provides interesting speculation on our pre-mortal, mortal and post-mortal existence.

Blurbs by other authors:

No Angel is a powerful story with captivating characters. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and my fingers turning the pages. . . . A must read! –Krista Darrach, author of Riley s Gift [Read more...]

Book Review of Identity and Author Interview with Betsy Love

IDENTITY by Betsy Love is an intriguing LDS novel. She says: “When The Muse Strikes—She better find you hard at work!” She is the winner of the 2011 NANOWRIMO. Betsy graduated from Ottawa University with a degree in secondary education and English literature. After 13 years of teaching (where she wrote and directed plays her students performed) she is now a full-time writer. Identity is Betsy’s debut novel.

Identity is  an action filled mystery with romantic suspense. It grabbed my interest from the front cover through the very last word. I loved the crisp characterization of the all players. I also liked that even though this is an LDS novel it wasn’t preachy. Betsy Love wrote with such skill I was guessing all the way through the narrative and pleasantly surprised with the directions in the twists and turns of the plot. I felt as if I was part of Savannah’s family by the time I was finished and yet rooted for Amelia also.

Below I share Betsy’s interview: [Read more...]

The Master of Emotion by D. Ogden Huff

The Master of Emotion by D. Ogden Huff is a young adult paranormal romance e-book. From the first word through the last I was drawn into Beau’s fascinating world and swirled around in his emotional tornado. Beau’s irritating twin brother expects him to embrace his abnormality. Sure.  He experiences someone else’s emotions with just a touch. Surrounded by an onslaught of overactive teenage emotion and a twin who eagerly touches everyone to read their thoughts, his ability seems like a curse. The safest way out is to put up an impenetrable wall and stay there.
Lately, Beau is getting lots of attention—whether he wants it or not—even if it’s his worst nightmare.

Review of In It to Win It by Morgan Kearns

In It to Win It is a contemporary romance by Morgan Kearns. Those who love contemporary romance and baseball will enjoy the story Sportscaster Jane Alexander and Baseball Icon Grayson Pierce.

Formerly know as ‘Plain Jane’ Alexander was a late bloomer. Back in highschool, she blended into the background, content to watch from the sidelines while Grayson Pierce soaked up the spotlight. Content until he broke her heart. Bitter, hurt and angry Jane did the college thing, came out of her shell, and never looked back.

Grayson loves baseball. It was his pastime in high school, his passion in college, and now … his career. However baseball isn’t the only thing in Grayson’s heart. The problem is that Grayson has the reputation as a bad-boy. According to tabloids he likes fast cars, loose women and expensive liquor.

All these things that make him deplorable in Jane’s eyes, throw in his hot and cold attitude and she is ready to scream. When the promise of an exclusive interview brings a very reluctant Jane to Grayson’s home, she realizes that not everything is as it appears.  Add Grayson’s endearing mom, Jane’s tyrant of a mother figure, a big brother photographer and you get a book that curls your toes, and requires a box of tissue at hand.

I met Morgan Kearns at the Sedona Book Festival earlier this month. She is energetic and loves happy-ever-after endings.  She loves to meet new characters as they step out of her imagination, introduce themselves and keep her up all night telling their stories. Morgan lives in Northern Arizona with her wonderfully supportive husband and her four great kids—and her bulldog, Gus.  Fade to Black is another title you may enjoy by this author.

In It to Win It is an adult romance – recommended for readers over the age of 18.

C.J. Hill Slayers release Countdown Book Give-away

My friend C.J.Hill is sponsoring a book give-away on her count down blog for the release of Slayers.

Who is C.J.Hill?

CJ Hill is a pen name for a YA author who is best known for writing romantic comedies. (Slayers will be her 18th published book.)  Her writing has shifted away from the romantic comedy genre, so her editor thought a pen name would be a good idea. (New books will include: dangerous dragons, time travel to dystopian worlds, and flesh-eating beetles.)   Since the publisher refused to let her have the pseudonym : The Artist Formerly Referred to as Princess, she chose a name to honor her mother.  CJ Hill was her mother’s pen name, or at least it would have been if her mother had published.  Her mother wrote a few children’s books and a middle grade novel but was taken by cancer before she had fully learned the craft.

(I suppose this is the reason she is a Writers Unite to Fight Cancer member.)

See Details Below:

Hey, blog friends. It’s time to count down the days until Slayers is released. You all have your Slayers decorations up and your greeting cards sent, right?

**special note, I’m checking the list of followers on the blog, so make sure you are officially following.

Here’s the deal:

Leaving a comment on the CJ Hill blog will get you one chance.
Being a follower of the CJ Hill blog will get you two chances.
Announcing this give-away and or posting the cover of Slayers on your blog/facebook/ or twitter and telling your peeps that Slayers is coming out Sept 27 will get you three chances. [Read more...]

Author Angela Morrison Gives Back

The first two parts of Angela Morrison’s M+L Forever Blog Tour at this site focused on her writing education and processes as well as her publications and marketing experiences. The week we will see how Angela  is a great example of an author who gives back to her community. Margaret: With Sing Me to Sleep you support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). I’ve seen that you are a member of Writers Unite to Fight Cancer. You are a great example of a philanthropist. Why do you support these causes and do you support any other charitable organizations? Angela:  I donate to humanitarian relief and educational efforts around the world through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I often get approached by bloggers for signed books for literacy and other causes. A blogger in the Philippines held a huge auction to give to earthquake victims, and I donated books and critiques. I’m always happy to appear at fundraising events free of charge. WUTFC supports real people whose struggle touches me deeply and wonderful organizations who help them. I’m pleased to give my time to their efforts. I also love volunteering as a guest author at local schools. I visit a few special schools every year, but I need to do more. I recently spoke at ASU’s inaugural celebration of El Dia los Ninos El Dia los Libros. [Read more...]

Interview: Angela Morrison M+L Blog Tour interview Part 2

Today we continue the interview with Angela Morrison as part of her M+L Forever Blog Tour and contest. Last week we discussed her MFA education and writing process. Today we discuss her publishing and promotion experiences.

Margaret: I see that two of your books are published by Penguin Razorbill and the other two are not. Explain how you made the decision to self-publish and the process you went through to do that.

Angela: A week before SING ME TO SLEEP (March 2010) released, my editor called me and told me she was leaving Razorbill–that Friday. Razorbill had the sequel to TAKEN BY STORM, UNBROKEN CONNECTION, under consideration. I had a very stringent option clause with them. That Monday I got an email from her boss, the publisher at Razorbill, rejecting it. My agent was at a loss what to do with it. We agreed no one would sign it because Razorbill had published the first book. To make matter’s worse, UNBROKEN CONNECTION ended on a cliff-hanger, so I’d planned a third book. My agent bailed on me, so all I had left were STORM’s readers–and they started a FaceBook and blog campaign in support of the book. I couldn’t disappoint them, so I swallowed my ego, and released it independently–first as an ebook on Kindle and then as a print on demand book through Amazon’s CreateSpace. As a thank you to my loyal readers, I started a blog for CAYMAN SUMMER and posted each scene, day by day, as I wrote it. It was an incredible journey for me. My readers became dear friends and creative collaborators. [Read more...]
